Mochi Cat Amigurumi and Riceball Kitty

I present to you my Mochi Cat Amigurumi! It’s a mashup of 2 of my favorite things. Mochi Rice cake, so soft, sweet, and delicious. And Cat, so soft, sweet (ok not so sweet sometimes if they’re a diva like my cat), and purrfect. Combine them together and you get the cool concoction of a Mochi Cat Amigurumi, or rather should I say “MEOW-chi” Cat!

Here’s a whole tray full of cute delights!

Mochi Cat Amigurumi Crochet

This free Mochi Cat crochet pattern uses one of the softest yarns out there, Pipsqueak Yarn. It’s so fluffy and squishy. Now that I think of it, Mochi Cat Amigurumi would be great as a stress ball as well!

I created the body out of this soft yarn, and what’s so great about Pipsqueak is that you can’t see the texture of the stitches. The body looks more like a sewn plushie. For the ear however, I wanted to give it definition, so I went back to my favorite workhorse yarn, the good ‘ol trusty acrylic worsted weight yarn.

Now if you add a Nori (seaweed) to the Mochi cat, you can also transform Mochi Cat into Riceball Kitty! I also like to call him Onipurri for his nickname =D. Also doesn’t the top Riceball Kitty look like a Ninja?

    Hi! I’m a beginner crochet(er?) and I don’t own a 5.0mm hook, can I use my 6.50 mm hook and be fine?

That’s fine, but you might want to use a chunkier yarn. Usually if you look on the yarn skein label, it shows the recommendation for the hook size.
