You’ll want to eat this Bao right up! But its face is so cute, you just might regret it, the instant you do. This precious little Bao amigurumi dumpling has a huge head stuffed with the most delicious stuffing.
Use this free tasty Bao crochet pattern to cook up some fresh steamed buns for yourself!
I first created this Bao amigurumi because a friend of mine requested a special gift for a friend. Upon finishing this chibi bao, I knew it would need a bamboo steamer basket to rest in.
I didn’t have any at home, but luckily there was a Daiso nearby where I was able to pick several up for pretty cheap.
Originally I wanted to create the amigurumi as a stand alone that you could freely play with. It would be like a dim sum plate where you can take Bao in and out of the basket as you please, along with the lettuce.
But upon looking at the construction of the bamboo basket, I realized that it could also function as a round shadow box frame and would work great as a home decor art piece.
You could hang it or stand it up. All I had to do was attach the lettuce and bao to the basket itself so that the two items would not fall out of the basket.
And there you have it, instant delicious decor to delight one’s palate!
So I hope you’ll enjoy this free crochet pattern. I’ve also created a video amigurumi tutorial for this Bao that takes you step by step through the entire making of Bao!

November 30, 2020 at 2:18 pmSuch a long time after you posted this, but is there anything you can do if you don’t have felt for the face?

December 9, 2020 at 8:37 pmSorry for replying late, but you can always try embroidering the face with floss or yarn as well.

December 29, 2020 at 3:06 amThis is so amazing and so easy to follow. My daughter is obsessed. My son now wants one but he wants a larger size. How do I go about doubling it? Do I increase the number of rows? Thank you!

December 29, 2020 at 3:11 pmAn easy way to make a larger amigurumi size is to use chunky yarn (you might want to try the large velvet blanket yarn types), or double strand or even triple strand your yarn while using a larger hook size to fit the new yarn size. Best of luck on your project!
