Baby Hippo Amigurumi – MOO DENG – Free Crochet Pattern

This Baby Hippo Amigurumi has stolen the hearts of everyone! Inspired by Moo Deng, the pygmy hippo at the Thailand zoo, this is one adorable crochet baby hippo in a fun and free pattern.

Its features include a big snout, small ears, button eyes, pink underbelly and tongue, and a cute tail.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sc.

Round 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around – 18 sc.

Round 5: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st] 4 times, WITH PINK YARN, sc in next 12 st – 28 sc.

CROCHET BABY HIPPO ASSEMBLY
1. Sew Snout to Head. See photos below for placement or this video tutorial here. You’ll want to make the snout have a dent inward when you’re sewing the bottom portion of the snout to create that hippo shaped snout.

2. Sew 15mm Button Eyes onto Face. Placement: Right above the ends of the snout and 6 sts apart.

3. Sew Ears to Head.

4. Cut 2 small circles from pink felt. Glue to the inner part of the Ear with Fabri-tac.

5. Sew Tongue below Snout.

6. Sew Legs on bottom of Body. Make sure to stabilize body so that hippo can stand on its own.

7. Sew Tail to Back of Body.

8. Hide all Ends.

Baby Hippo Crochet Pattern

A baby hippo amigurumi inspired by the viral sensation Moo Deng, the adorable baby pygmy hippo. She's sassy and cute!

Materials

  • 1 Skein of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (worsted weight, acrylic yarn) in the color Dusty Gray
  • 1 Skein of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color Petal Pink
  • 15mm Button Eyes (or 15mm Safety Eyes)
  • Polyfil Stuffing
  • Pink Felt
  • Fabri-tac Glue

Tools

  • Crochet Hook - 4.0mm size
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Scissors

Instructions

SIZE: 7in long and 4in tall / 18cm long and 10cm tall

BODY
